Greenbee Railroad

Sunday, May 23: We spent a couple cold windy hours on Friday, May 21, preparing to pour cement for the retaining walls that will flank the tunnel portals. We used foam core presentation boards pinned together with 2 inch T pins for forms/molds.

We poured four walls on Saturday and did some other "odds and ends" jobs: securing the track to the mountain loop trestle and bridge, moving and burying the power supply cable for the mountain loop, adding stepping stones. Three of the retaining walls were poured using vinyl patching cement. We have been having trouble with cement bleed through with our stone work portals, so we decided to try a rapid set cement mix on the stone wall that was set up the previous week.

Sunday was dedicated to running trains and taking the forms off the walls we poured on Saturday. Using the rapid set cement for the stone wall worked beautifully with almost no bleed through. We are using bent strapping bands set into the hill-side glued with construction adhesive to the back of the walls to hold them in place.
